Upload one or more PDFs (max 25 MB each) and convert to PDF/A-2B, the ISO archival standard, by embedding a color profile and PDF/A metadata. Multiple files combine into one PDF/A, in order. This is a best-effort conversion, not veraPDF-certified compliance. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Nothing is stored — processing happens in memory only.

What is PDF/A and why would I need it?
PDF/A is an ISO standard for long-term document archiving — it requires embedded fonts, a defined color profile, and metadata so the file renders identically decades from now, independent of external resources. It's commonly required for legal, government, and institutional record-keeping.
What does "best-effort, not veraPDF-certified" mean?
The conversion embeds the color profile and PDF/A metadata a compliant file needs, but it isn't validated against veraPDF (the industry-standard PDF/A compliance checker). For most practical archival purposes it's sufficient, but if you need certified compliance for a formal submission, verify the output with a dedicated validator first.
Why do I need to unlock encrypted PDFs first?
PDF/A's archival requirements are incompatible with password encryption. Use the Unlock PDF tool first, then convert the unlocked file here.
